Sri Lanka, the magnificent island of paradise, is on the Indian Ocean south of India and is widely known as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, owing to the inexplicable beauty and majesty, which Sri Lanka is fraught with.

Heart of Sri Lanka

Colombo serves as the executive and judicial capital of Sri Lanka, with Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, a suburb of Colombo, acting as the legislative capital. Located on the west coast of the island, just south of the Kelani River, Colombo stands as a significant port on the Indian Ocean, boasting one of the world’s largest artificial harbours and managing the majority of Sri Lanka’s foreign trade. The city has seen a reduction in Western influence since Sri Lanka gained independence in 1948. Colombo features numerous parks and playing fields, including the Galle Face Green along the sea, the Vihara Maha Devi Park, and the Ridgeway Golf Links. Cricket and football grounds are dispersed throughout the city, and tennis and track events enjoy popularity. Mount Lavinia Beach provides opportunities for sea bathing and surfing. The international airport is situated in Katunayake, while Ratmalana airport handles domestic flights.

Lotus tower

The Lotus Tower, also known as the Colombo Lotus Tower, stands at a height of 350 m (1,150 ft) in Colombo, Sri Lanka. In Sinhala, it is referred to as ‘Nelum Kuluna.’ Visitors can access the top using an elevator, providing a panoramic view of the impressive city of Colombo. Recognized as the tallest tower in South Asia, it holds significance as a symbolic landmark of Sri Lanka. As of 2019, the Lotus Tower is the tallest self-supported structure in South Asia, the second tallest overall in the region, the 11th tallest tower in Asia, and the 19th tallest tower globally. The lotus-shaped tower serves purposes such as communication, observation, and other recreational facilities.
